No, parents are responsible for packing a healthy lunch for their child everyday. Our facility has a fridge to store cold lunches and a microwave for reheating food. Grassroots Early Learning and Care aims to provide a flexible schedule and program that meets the needs of the children. This means that each day may look different from the last. Parents are asked to be prepared by packing children with weather-appropriate gear every day so that children are able to go outside and explore to their heart's content. Generally, children will start the morning by enjoying indoor play, then transition into a morning outdoor adventure, head back to the facility for lunch, enjoy storytime, have their afternoon rest, then transition into outdoor play time before the program closes.

At Grassroots Early Learning and Care, children can learn through building and constructing with a variety of toys and materials. Throughout the day, children have opportunities to develop their motor skills through experimenting with the different art materials provided, manipulating sensory materials, and assisting with snack preparations in the afternoon. Ample outdoor time is offered to children morning and afternoon, with opportunities to connect with nature, explore and get to know our neighbourhood, and exercise and develop their gross motor skills on park playgrounds. Small group care allows for children to meaningfully connect with others and to more easily navigate through some of the first significant peer relationships in their lives.

Yes. Grassroots Early Learning and Care has a resident cat named Luna! Luna has proven to be great with people of all ages, and is a friendly and playful companion who will be joining children in their learning at the program. Studies have shown that being in the presence of an animal can immediately decrease stress levels and produce a calming effect. Children who grow up with cats learn to better understand non-verbal communication and intentions and improve emotional understanding to become more empathetic adults.
